Watch a Thief Steal a Photographer’s Camera at a Wedding

Comment

If you’re ever shooting a photography gig with strangers around, it’s always important to make sure your pricey equipment is safe from harm and theft. Here’s a 3-minute video that shows why: a thief was caught on camera stealing a camera and lens while the owner was busy shooting the wedding.

Wedding shooters Vagelis and Stavros shared the video after having their gear stolen on Friday, December 27th.

Greek photo site PTTL reports that the duo was shooting at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Dionysius the Areopagite in Athens, Greece when a man strolled over to their gear, took a Sony camera (serial number 3794807) and lens from a camera bag, and strolled out of the venue unnoticed.

As you can see in the video, the man sat closer and closer to the equipment while surveying the scene to make sure no one was watching him — the photographers and guests were too busy waiting for the bridal party to make their entrance. The man also carried a backpack with him to hide and carry away the stolen items.

Do you recognize this camera thief?

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to contact Vagelis Tolis. And if you’re buying a used Sony camera inor around Greece, you can also keep your eye out for the serial number above.
